73rd President, Mumbai Obstetrics & Gynecological Society (MOGS)
Date: 12th April 2026 | Venue: Sunville Banquets | Presidential Installation Speech at 92nd Installation General Body Meeting
Respected Chairman & members of Board of Trustees, Dignitaries on the dais, Seniors, Teachers & My Dear Friends.
As I stand before you as 73rd president of MOGS, I am overwhelmed with mixed feelings, humbled, proud, nervous & bit stressed. Proud, yes, getting installed as president of MOGS organization with 93 years of legacy, which has given giants in specialty, numerous FOGSI presidents & three FIGO presidents is obviously a moment of pride. This moment of pride is more heartening as I am one of few or probably only sitting Head of Department of Medical college taking charge as President MOGS.
Nervous & stressed because, with this pride comes with huge responsibility, particularly after the benchmark set by my predecessors.
Before I begin, I seek blessings from God - Lord Ganesha, Our Kuldaivat, Lord Ram ,Our Gurus & my parents.
My Family-My Roots
Family is where life begins and love never ends." — Oprah Winfrey
Born in middle class family at Dadar, I grew up in unique joint-nuclear family, where my father & his 4 brothers stayed in ancestral building, in five small separate but interconnected flats with free access with each-other. Had wonderful childhood memories with this extended family of parents, Uncle & aunts, real brothers & 6 cousins staying in same premises, teaching values of unity.
My Mother being school teacher, taught me values of education & life ethics, Father was also in BMC service, he taught me honesty n punctuality, value of time & money
I owed my success & this presidentship to my parents.
I thank my brothers Vinay & Pankaj who are doing business and sister-in laws Sangeeta Ex professor & vice principal at SIES & Seema housewife, & my nephews Omkar & Sakshi for all the support throughout my journey. I also thank my mother-in law, brother in law Shailesh & Sister in law Swati & their family for all the support.
Education is one of the few things a person is willing to pay for and not get.
— William Lowe Bryan
Fortunately, I was blessed to get initial education in Balmohan Vidyamandir school & Ruia college, institutes known for high standards of education & morality.
My Journey in Medicine
After doing junior college in Ruia, I did well in HSC n was selected for both engineering n medicine. I had liking for biology but since there was no medical background in family, I thought it would be more practical to take engineering. That year, both medical n engineering admission interviews were on scheduled in same week. I was very much in dilemma & almost decided to go for VJTI interview. But destiny wanted me to be serve humanity. Just 2 days before interview, I happened to meet one of my school friends in a temple who was two-year senior & doing medicine in JJ, he really counsel & brainwashed me. Same day I happened to visit our family doctor who finally convinced me to become doctor , that is how I ended up in medicine & that also in Sion.
During & after MBBS, due to influence of my close friend Samir , I was inclined towards ObGyn and as things fell right, I scored very well in ObGyn in third MBBS & got admission for Gynaecology.

And biggest gain or jackpot I got during my Sion days was my love, soulmate Manju, now Siddhi who has been my friend, adviser, pillar of strength & support system. In-spite of being more talented, she sacrificed her career for few years for our children for which I am really thankful to her. Her role in our children’s success is almost 99%.

My Students- My Strength
As a medical teacher, your student force is your strength which keep you going, & throughout my journey I was fortunate to get very good students. Now I often feel good & proud when I see my students excelling in their field & doing very well. Some of them have joined MOGS managing committee & now source of my ease during my presidential year. Thank you Sayalee, Mansi, Sayalee, Divya, Pradnya, Sheikha.

Apart from them, also had short association with Dr. Maydeo, Dr. Shirodkar at Sion & then at Nair Dr. Shinde & Dr. Gupta. I really thank all of them for their support during their tenure.
Association with MOGS
During my residency in 1989, because of influence of Dr. P K Shah , I along with other Sion residents became member of MOGS. I presented my first paper on Perinatal outcome in Breech at Trident rooftop, totally unaware that after many years I will be standing here as President of MOGS.
Dr. Suchitra encouraged me to join managing council of MOGS. It was in 2004, doors opened for me to enter managing committee of MOGS, thanks to Dr. C.N.Purandare . After serving for 22 yrs in managing council, fighting 4 elections including that for joint clinical secretary, I had honor of standing before you as president.
"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants."—— Issac Newton
During this period I had a opportunity to work with 22 Presidents of MOGS. right from Walvekar madam to immediate past president Dr.Sankpal. Every MOGS President added a color to my wisdom & spectrum, things which are going to be useful in my tenure as president.
Dr. Walvekar and Dr. P. K. Shah gave me opportunities to organize CMEs. It was a pleasure to conduct valedictory function in annual conferences during their tenure. I must thank Dr.Nayana Dastur madam, for giving me lot of opportunities, In her presidential year, she involved me in almost all programs, that really boosted my innings in MOGS.

I had opportunity to work in core team, as treasurer with Sarita & secretary with Anahita, years full of newer vistas & empathy/energy. Rajendra’s year again brought international touch with many international speakers coming as faculty in our conferences.
Working with FOGSI
FOGSI is our parent body & I had opportunity to serve as Chairperson of Genetics & Fetal Medicine committee from 2013-16. Had a wonderful tenure with Dr. Hema Divakar, Dr. Suchitra Pandit & Dr. Prakash Trivedi as FOGSI presidents, doing as many as 60 workshops across India.
Now it’s time to unveil logo of the year.
Our Vision: Our Mission- SHE, working for making her Strong, Healthy & Empowered.
These colors of circle & leaves have been carefully chosen, red symbolizing strength, Green for health & blue for empowerment. Levander color signifying femineity. The circle is only half showing unmet needs in women’s health, reminding us of work to be completed by us as medical professionals
Working motto of this year will be Reaching the unreached.
Out of 2400 MOGS members, only 600-700 members attend the MOGS programs. We intend to reach to other members of MOGS by reaching out to other members & motivating them to participate as faculty & delegate.
We will be also reaching out to venues in other areas of Mumbai for arranging one day symposia
Arranging conferences in five-star hotels costs us huge amount, putting financial strain & debt on MOGS. Instead, we intend to arrange some of the events in smaller venues which will cost much less saving money for MOGS.
